Periodontics in Oshawa
Healthy gums, healthy teeth
Gum disease (gingivitis) is a serious issue. Not only can it have a dramatic impact on your overall dental health but, if left untreated, can even lead to heart disease. From early detection and treatment to advanced bone regeneration techniques, pocket reduction surgery and more, all the periodontic treatment you need is right here at North Oshawa Dental.

Scaling and root planing
The initial stage of treatment for periodontal disease is usually a thorough cleaning that may include scaling and/or root planing. This is a non-surgical procedure used to remove the plaque and tartar that is causing the gingival inflammation and disease. Scaling removes the plaque and tartar on the tooth surface while root planing smooths the root of the tooth to help promote healing and prevent a buildup of bacteria in the future.
Bone and gum grafting
Bone grafting is used to recreate the bone and soft supporting tissues that have been lost due to gum disease. The purpose of bone grafting is to coax the body into recreating the bone and other structures that help stabilize the tooth in the jaw. Gum grafting helps those who have lost the gum coverage that normally surrounds the teeth. Through regenerative surgery, the lost tissues are re-grown.

Frenectomy
Many younger individuals are affected by being tongue-tied or lip-tied. Tongue ties can lead to a difficulty in nursing, speech impediments, pain and discomfort, periodontal issues and bite misalignment. Lip ties can cause pain and discomfort, difficulty nursing, receding gums and misaligned or gapped teeth. A simple frenectomy can relieve the tongue tie or lip tie quickly and easily to prevent these issues from manifesting.
Gingivoplasty
It’s important to have proper gum coverage around your teeth, both for optimized dental health and a healthy, self-assured smile. If you suffer from receding or misshapen gums, a gingivoplasty can be performed to reshape the gum tissue around the teeth and add tissue to the gum line. A gingivoplasty can also be performed along with a gum graft.
