Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a perfect solution for a variety of cosmetic issues including chipped teeth and gaps between teeth. A porcelain dental veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that is custom-crafted to match the contour and colour of your other teeth. The veneer is then affixed to your teeth with a bonding agent. Veneers can also be used to cover discoloured teeth to provide a dazzling white smile.

If you’re looking to improve your smile with whiter, better-aligned teeth, veneers are an excellent option to consider. Your veneers are permanently affixed to the front of your teeth with extra-strong dental bonding cement, which provides you with a new smile that traditionally lasts up to 15 years. Many patients ask about porcelain veneers due to tooth discolouring but they’re also an excellent option for individuals with broken or chipped teeth, or teeth that have been worn down due to bruxism. Veneers can be applied on a single tooth to cover up minor spacing issues or put on up to eight teeth to create a brilliant white smile.

Broken | Chipped | Smaller-than-normal

You can place a single porcelain veneer on a tooth or two to cover a tooth space, or you can have a series of porcelain veneers applied to your teeth. Many patients choose to have porcelain veneers put on the top four, six or eight teeth so that when they smile, it’s bright and white.

When we apply these porcelain or composite veneers, a lot of prep work adds to the application. You can also choose to have “no-prep” veneers applied to your teeth, which are less invasive and require less prep time. Preparation for Traditional Porcelain Veneers Traditional porcelain veneers often involve grinding the tooth structure or removing a small portion of the tooth to get past the outer layer of tooth enamel. This dental procedure is necessary for proper veneer placement, and it’s irreversible. Once we reshape the tooth in our North Oshawa Dental office, there’s no going back. During the dental procedure, a local anesthetic will reduce the risk of pain or discomfort and we offer sedation for patients who would like more comfort for their appointment. Preparation for No-prep Veneers for your Teeth, or any no-prep veneer option, requires minimal dental tooth prep if necessary. For some patients, a local anesthesia isn’t necessary. No-prep options sound like a great option for everyone, but that’s not always the case. The no-prep option isn’t ideal if the tooth position needs to shift, and they increase the size of the teeth. If teeth are crowded already, traditional porcelain veneers may be the better dental choice.

How do you apply Porcelain Veneers?

While applying veneers may seem like a simple procedure due to the lack of invasiveness, there is actually a lot of prep work involved prior to applying traditional porcelain veneers. The process involves shaving down a small portion of the tooth just slightly below the outer layer of enamel. This shaving or grinding is necessary to ensure the placement is permanent. Prior to this procedure, we will administer a local anesthetic to reduce pain and discomfort; you can also request another sedation option based on your comfort level. Book a consultation with us today to find out if porcelain veneers are a great way to uplift your smile.

How Much do Dental Veneers Cost?

Unfortunately as an elective procedure, dental veneers are not covered under most insurance policies. Keep in mind, however, that the smile you aspire for will boost your confidence and self-esteem by leaps and bounds, which is simply priceless.

How Long do Dental Veneers Last?

With proper care, traditional veneers last 10-15 years.

What are the Advantages of Dental Veneers?

There are several reasons to consider getting dental veneers. Dental veneers are a great way to hide minor imperfections in your smile while providing a natural appearance. Porcelain veneers are also custom-made just for you, which allows you to select whatever shade of white you’re most comfortable with. Even darker or yellow teeth can instantly be transformed into white. Dental veneers also do not hurt the gums. Finally, dental veneers have a long-term impact on the colour and shape of your smile… up to 15 years for traditional veneers.

What do I Need to Know After I Get Dental Veneers?

The better you care for your new veneers, the longer they will last. Fortunately, the procedure for getting dental veneers is relatively minor so your recovery time will be short. In fact, once the anesthetic wears off you can enjoy your favourite foods and beverages immediately afterward. As you first start getting used to your new veneers, you may notice a slightly rough sensation as you run your tongue along the veneer’s surface. This uneven texture is not due to the veneers but the bonding material used, and this will eventually flake away leaving the surface smooth and luxurious. To help your veneers last as long as possible, avoid chewing ice and hard objects, avoid chewing with your front teeth, wear a night guard if you grind your teeth while sleeping and wear a sports guard while playing sports.
